Sri Lankan Elephants

Sri Lankan elephants are a sub species of Asian elephants and numbers in the wild are thought to be around 6000, showing a significant increase over the last decade. The Pinnewala sanctuary, which was set up to home orphaned elephants, has its critics who question the decision to let elephants breed there, but it remains one of the most visited places in Sri Lanka.
